Your Stateroom Attendant

In the past, we neglected some important points.  Here are thoughts on best-in-class recommendations in order to get your cruise started pleasantly, and to keep things positive throughout:

  • Your stateroom attendant wants you to be happy.  You want him/her to be happy.  When making your initial “special” requests, start things off on a positive note by handing out some cash - $5 is sufficient to get his/her attention.  This past year, we believe that this small gesture had paid off many dividends.  (I’ve seen online suggestions of $10 or even $20 on day one.  That seems a bit much, but I’m sure that amount would make you memorable to your attendant.)
  • We request (and always receive) a bed topper - just a little more comfort on your stateroom bed.
  • Extra towels - be specific; let the attendant know that you need extra bath towels, or 1-2 full sets beyond standard.
  • Daily ice bucket - whether you need it for drinks, or you transfer some ice to a ziplock back for application to sore body spots.
  • Preferred room makeup time - your general choice is morning or afternoon, but we request the 5pm hour, when we dine.  Showers will have been completed following any gym or port time, and it’s nice to return in the evening to a fresh cabin.
  • Extra box of tissues - why run out?
  • More hangars - not sure why, but we always need another dozen
  • Ask your attendant if they would like a soft drink or an energy drink.  Some will decline, but the eyes of most will light up at the thought of this daily extra highlight, which costs us little or nothing.
