To Wi-fi or Not to Wi-fi - either way, put your phone in airplane mode to avoid $$
- We choose to have Wi-if 90% of the time. While some travelers can “turn off and tune out,” we rest assured that family can reach us in an emergency. And…you may find that a grandparent or other family member/friend is excited to hear from cruising folks. (No extra charge for wi-fi phone calls)
- Based upon your loyalty status, you may receive reduced price or free internet service.
- On Royal, a Diamond status reached at 85 nights cruising will provide free one day/one device/per person
- At Diamond Plus status reached at 175 nights, the free wi-fi is 2 days/one device/per person
- Note: Sharing is simple enough although sometimes annoying. Only one device at a time, but you can switch among devices and persons by using one shared log-in/password. If the free service is in use, you can “switch devices” easily (after warning your partner!)
- If you are paying for service, you can “save” a day by waiting until the first full day of your cruise to buy your package. A package for cruise duration is almost always cheaper than daily, unless you are skipping some days. The package will be prorated from the day you initiate it. Look for pre-cruise or first day specials, often 25-30%.
- On short cruises, we can overlap our free days, allowing both to have a device online at the same time for at least one day.
